Hey friends! Up for discussion is- American Dexter Cattle registered- our girl Hanna is three years old (born 4/25/2020) and has calved twice now- both times went beautifully (on her own). She freshened September 4 to a beautiful black dexter heifer named Lily. She originally came to us untrained in November 2021 from a beef herd. We used her as a milk cow, stanchion trained with alfalfa pellets. She has been almost exclusively grass fed and has thrived. Her first freshening she gave us about half gallon of milk a day calf sharing (separating her bull calf at night) and at peak up to 3/4- gallon. With the right person, and patience she would make an excellent cow whether for producing more dexter beef- or as a milk cow- but we did have to really work with her to get her accustomed to milking- and had precautions in place (kick board) that later became unnecessary. Lily, her calf, had the most even tempered father who I could personally lead around with a rope- she would also make an amazing family milk cow. The only reason we are selling is because our jersey also calved and we have more milk than our family currently needs.
